China confirmed Saturday that Vice President Wang Qishan will attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth as President Xi Jinping’s special envoy.
Wang will be the most prominent Chinese official to visit UK since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, ‘South China Morning Post’ newspaper said.
Moreover, the visit comes at a time when relations between the two sides are strained due to a series of issues, including Xinjiang, where the British Parliament accused China of committing “genocide.”
The newspaper added that a Chinese delegation was prevented from attending the farewell ceremony of Queen Elizabeth in Westminster Hall.
It is worth mentioning that, the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will be held at Westminster Abbey at 11 am on Monday 19th September, Buckingham Palace announced on Saturday.
Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom’s longest-serving monarch passed away Thursday afternoon at the age of 96 at Scotland’s Balmoral Castle after reigning for 70 years, according to Buckingham Palace.
