China declared Wednesday its support for the comprehensive peace deal between the Sudanese government and opposition groups.

"China welcomes and supports the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement between the Sudanese government and opposition groups," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said in a statement.

On October 3, the Sudanese government signed a comprehensive peace deal with most of the rebel movements in the South Sudanese capital Juba, to end decades of conflict in Darfur, the Blue Nile, and South Kordofan regions.

The deal covers many fundamental issues that had not been addressed in previous agreements; it also provides a specified share in the wealth, and power, both at the central and local levels.

Chunying stated that the peace deal will help Sudan continue to advance the political transition process smoothly, noting that China hopes all parties in Sudan will implement it well.

"China is ready to work with the international community to further play a constructive role in promoting peace, stability, and development in Sudan," she added.
