The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced on Thursday that the volume of bank deposits in local currency reached EGP 203.10 billion during the first quarter of 2021, of which EGP 104 billion were in March alone.
The central bank said that the household deposits in local currency, which represents 79.96% of the total deposits, amounted to EGP 168.20 billion during Q1 of 2021 to record EGP 3.089 trillion by the end of March, compared to EGP 2.921 trillion in December.
CBE data also showed that foreign currency deposits amounted to EGP 644.408 billion by the end of March, while the net foreign assets of banks rose to EGP 276.436 billion by the end of March.
