Mason Mount missed the crucial spot-kick as Tottenham edged past Chelsea on penalties after a 1-1 draw to reach the Carabao Cup fifth round.
Timo Werner had opened the scoring for the Blues after nineteen minutes, when Cesar Azpilicueta robbed the ball from Sergio Reguilon, who then pes in to try to win it back. Azpi picked out Werner on the edge of the box, as he had two men on him but smashed in a low, right-footed shot into the corner.
Erik Lamel had levelled the scoring in the 83rd minute, when Sergio Reguilon did well for an assist on his debut, lifting a cross to the far post, Emerson was nowhere and Lamela took a touch and sweeps home.
A strong argument broke out between Tottenham’s head coach José Mourinho, and Chelsea’s manager Frank Lampard during their clubs’ clashes.
Some footage showed both managers in a strong argument, when the Blues went ahead with an unanswered goal.
“Old friends Lampard and Mourinho are exchanging a few words on the touchline here at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium,” SkySports reported.
