Canadian Ambassador in Cairo Jess Dutton lauded on Tuesday the great support provided by the Egyptian political leadership for empowering women in the political field.

Highlighting women's representation in the Egyptian cabinet and parliament, the Canadian envoy praised Egypt's political policy, which bans gender pay discrimination.

Dutton was speaking at a seminar organized by the Faculty of Law and Legal Studies at the German University in Cairo (GUC) on promoting the role of women and gender equality as a top priority in Canada's foreign policy.

He hailed Egypt's offering of educational and healthcare services to women and children through national programs implemented by the government.

"Providing support and financing to small and medium-sized projects of the breadwinner women backs their contribution to the economy at the local and international levels," the ambassador pointed out. "The Canadian Embassy here has organized many events to support the role of women in cooperation with local bodies concerned," he said.
