Canada recorded the first infection with swine flu in humans, as a person was infected with a rare type of "H1N2" virus, Canadian health authorities announced, Wednesday.

The virus was detected in the middle of last month in a patient in the province of Alberta, in the country's west, who had flu symptoms. He quickly recovered, according to a statement by the local health authorities.

The health authorities pointed out that "this recorded influenza virus, type A (H1N2) is rare, with 27 cases registered in the world since 2005, with no previous case recorded in Canada."

The official in the Public Health Authority in Canada, Teresa Tam, explained that the aforementioned person contracted rare influenza in humans, "after contact with infected pigs."

She wrote on Twitter that this virus "is not known to be transmitted easily between humans."

The Alberta authorities confirmed that they are dealing with the issue "seriously," but "nothing leads to belief until the moment that the virus has spread," speaking of an "isolated case."

The health authorities opened an investigation to determine the source of the virus and ensure that it did not spread.
