Canada’s Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie announced the fifth package of economic sanctions against Iran, as Ottawa continues its campaign to criticize human rights conditions in Tehran.

In a statement, Jolie said two airlines, Shahed Aviation Industries, and Qods Aviation Industry Company, have been added to the Canadian sanctions list for their relationship with the Revolutionary Guards.

Her statement described the two companies as key to the regime's ongoing activities, including its assistance to Russian forces during Russia's offensive in Ukraine.

Canada also banned economic dealings with six individuals described as senior members and supporters of the regime, including the former commander-in-chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

The sanctions follow Canada's official invocation of rarely used immigration rules earlier this week to prevent thousands of Iranian government and military officials from entering the country.
