Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said that he would not allow any coup against the Sudanese revolution.

In a televised statement, Burhan revealed that the Sudanese army managed to foil a rebellion attempt by dismissed ex-employees of Sudan National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), late Tuesday.

Moreover, he added that calm had returned to Khartoum and all the areas that witnessed tension, stressing that "The army managed to eliminate the rebellion with minimal losses."

“All headquarters are under the army’s control, and the airspace is now open,” al-Burhan added.

On his part, the army chief of staff Mohamed Othman al-Hussein said, “What happened on Tuesday is a revolt.”

It is worth mentioning that, the ex-security agents fought soldiers in Khartoum, for hours until government forces foiled the revolt late Tuesday, according to a military source.

The source added that two soldiers were killed and four injured in the unrest.

The former employees of NISS shot in the air in Khartoum on Tuesday in protest at severance terms, prompting a heavy security force deployment and the temporary closure of the country’s airspace, Reuters reported.

A witness told Reuters that the Rapid Response Forces and the army had been deployed in Khartoum‘s main streets and roads were closed after gunmen shot in front of two buildings used by the General Intelligence and Security Service.

Sudan is currently going through a three-year political transition period after the overthrow of President Omar Al-Bashir.
