British PM Boris Johnson and chancellor of the exchequer Rishi Sunak will receive fixed-penalty warnings for violating Covid restrictions during lockdown, according to a statement from the British Prime Minister's office on Tuesday.

"The prime minister and chancellor of the exchequer have today received notification that the Metropolitan police intend to issue them with fixed penalty notices," an official spokesperson said. We don't have any additional information at this time, but we'll let you know as soon as we do."

The fines are for parties held in Downing Street under lockdown, and are expected to include a celebration for Johnson's birthday in the cabinet room in June 2020.

Sue Gray, a senior government worker, revealed findings on four sessions of the prime minister and his staff under lockdown in 2020 and 2021 in January of this year.

Gray's findings were a setback for Johnson, who had previously claimed that the regulations were always followed. She also stated that the findings were based on only four of the 16 occurrences she investigated.
