British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the kingdom on Monday and discussed Iran, as well as bilateral ties and climate change, according to the British foreign office.

Raab's visit coincides with efforts by world powers to resurrect a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran that Saudi Arabia had opposed because it failed to address Tehran's missile development and backing for regional proxies, especially in Yemen, Reuters reported.

"The UK reaffirms our commitment to tackling our shared security challenges, including Iranian threats and the continued conflict in Yemen," a foreign office statement quoted Raab as saying, adding that Riyadh was a close friend and long-standing partner.

Saudi Arabia, which is embroiled in a regional rivalry with Iran, has encouraged world powers to negotiate a stronger, longer-term deal at negotiations in Vienna aimed at bringing both the US and Iran back into full compliance with the agreement.

In 2018, the United States pulled out of the agreement and reimposed sanctions on Iran, causing Tehran to gradually break numerous of the pact's nuclear limits. find out more
