The BRICS group countries welcomed on Tuesday the cease-fire deal signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, according to TASS news agency.

At the XII Brics summit held via videoconference, the member states expressed their support for further political and diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace in the region.

BRICS is a group composed of five major countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

They together represent about 42% of the population, 23% of GDP, 30% of the territory, and 18% of the global trade.

It is worth mentioning that, earlier this month, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia signed an agreement to end the military conflict over the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh.

It follows six weeks of fighting between Azerbaijan and ethnic Armenians.
