Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to the hospital shortly according to the club’s official website on Wednesday.
Mosimane the Iconic Manager
Mosimane was appointed by Al Ahly in October and managed to guide them to a season treble for the third time in the club’s history.
A 2-1 win over Zamalek in a historic CAF Champions League final in November followed by a victory against Tala’a El-Gaish in the Egypt Cup a week later completed their treble last season.
The 56-year-old also kicked-off Al Ahly’s new Egyptian Premier League season with a 3-1 win against Misr El-Makkasa.
However, he is set to be sidelined for up to two weeks after Al Ahly released an official statement, confirming that the manager tested positive for COVID-19.
“Mosimane is subject to quarantine as per the protocol of the Ministry of Health to treat coronavirus,” the club said in a statement.
The South African coach will now miss Al Ahly’s home league game against newly-promoted Ghazl El-Mahalla as well as their first-round clash against AS SONIDEP in the CAF Champions League.
