On Thursday, the Jordanian government announced that it had accepted the resignation of Minister of Interior, Tawfiq al-Halalmeh, over failure to maintain coronavirus curfew measures during the parliamentary elections.

The Jordanian king Abdullah bin Al-Hussein, criticized what he described as breaking the coronavirus curfew measures during the electoral process in the country, stressing the need to maintain safety and health of all citizens.

The Jordanian monarch wrote on his Twitter account that failure of Jordanians to abide by coronavirus precautionary measures is a clear violation of the law, and represent an encroachment on the safety and health of society.

Jordanians voted Tuesday in a parliamentary election overshadowed by the coronavirus pandemic which has dealt a heavy blow to the Arab country’s already debt-ridden economy.
