Greek media reported on Friday that Greece's fighters escorted a Turkish fighter out of the country's airspace.

"Four Turkish fighter jets, pided into two pairs, flew simultaneously at 10:12 on Friday morning over Agathonisi, located at the northernmost point of the Dodecanese," local reports said.

One formation flew at an altitude of 16,000 feet and at the same time, the other pair of Turkish F-16s flew at 25,000 feet over the Dodecanese island.

The Greek Defense Ministry sent an official request letter on November 6 to the US government for the purchase of the F-35 fighter jets.

In a letter of request, Theodoros Lagios, General Director of the Armaments and Investment Department of the Greek Ministry of Defense, stated the importance of Greece acquiring the U.S.-made jets.

This decision was made in September following Turkey’s ongoing provocations against Greece and Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean.
