European Union (EU) High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stressed on Thursday that Europe is facing "the most serious security crisis since World War II", against the backdrop of the situation in Ukraine.
"No one doubts this. Europe is in danger," Borrell said during a conference in Madrid, Spain.
Moreover, he called for an increase in defense spending by EU member states, noting that the issue of creating a joint European army was not being considered in the near future.
It is worth mentioing that, European Council Chief Charles Michel said on Wednesday that history will not forget the war crimes that have been committed in Ukraine.
The European Council has adopted a legislative law that provides an additional 3.5 billion euros in total, over the course of this year, to support member states that receive Ukrainian refugees fleeing hostilities in their country.
