US aircraft manufacturer Boeing said that it will pay $ 100 million to families and communities of the 346 killed in the crash of the 737 Max last year.

"These funds will be given to non-profit civil society organizations to help distribute the money to the families of the victims," the company said in a statement.

"These funds will be used to support education, including tuition fees or other educational expenses for children of the victims, and to ease them from hardship or living expenses for the affected families," Boeing added.

A Boeing spokesman said the families of the victims who accept the money would not be required to waive their right to legal action against the company. The company faces many lawsuits relating to the accidents of this type of aircraft.

It is noteworthy that Boeing 737 Max was shut down all over the world last March after an Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed shortly after taking off. This came after the same model crashed in late 2018 from the Indonesian airline Leon Air.
