Egypt Celebrates Birth Anniversary of "Hind Rostom"

CAIRO, Nov 12 (SEE)- Hind Rostom an Egyptian artist and one of the cinema icons in its golden era, she was born on November 12, 1931 at the Muharram Bey district in Alexandria and died on August 8, 2011. she was dubbed by her fans the "Marilyn Monroe East" and  queen of ''seduction" of Egyptian cinema.

She started her career at the age of 16 with the film ''Azhaar wa Ashwak''. Her first true success was in 1955 when the famous director ''Hassan Al Imam'' offered a role in ''Banat el Lail'' .

Rostom's first artistic appearance was in 1947. In 1949 She appeared in the song "Atmakhrati Ya Khail" as "Compars" in ''Ghazal Al-Banat '' movie with Najib Al-Rihani, Lili Murad and Yousuf Wahbi Directed by Hassan Rida, who later married her and began a star trip at the cinema.

Rostom's famous films includind ''ibn Hamidu'' in 1957, ''Youssef Chahine's Bab El Hadid' with Farid Shawki in 1958, ''Salah Abu Seif's La Anam'' with Faten Hamama, Omar Sharif and Rushdy Abaza in 1958, ''Sira' fi El-Nil'' with Omar Sharif and Rushdy Abaza in 1959.

Her last work was published in 1979 in the film ''Hayaty Adab'' and decided to remove the art until her death on August 8, 2011 after a serious heart attack.

Rostom refused an offer of one million Egyptian pounds for her biography in 2002. The offer was made by an Egyptian satellite channel to portray her life as a drama series.

The actress reported that she refused to sell her life as a means of entertainment and felt that her personal life was of her concern and no one else. In 2004 ''Rostom'' refused to accept ''Egypt's State Merit Award in Arts''.

She said: ''The award came too late I'm not placed on shelf for them to pick me whenever they want. There's only one ''Hind Rostom'' in the Middle East.''
