Former US President Bill Clinton was hospitalized for a blood infection, media agencies reported on Friday.

Clinton's personal physician said in a statement: "He was admitted to the ICU for close monitoring and administered IV antibiotics and fluids. He will remain at the hospital for continuous monitoring."

The doctors also told CNN that he was kept in ICU for safety and privacy only. In addition, the former president is in good condition and he communicated with his family members.

They concluded: "After two days of treatment, his white blood cell count is trending down and he is responding to antibiotics well," asserting, "We hope to have him go home soon."

Clinton was in California to attend a private event dedicated to his foundation before he felt tired and was taken to the hospital for tests on Tuesday.

Therefore, his spokesperson responded to the news saying: "On Tuesday evening, President Clinton was admitted to UCI Medical Center to receive treatment for a non-Covid-related infection. He is on the mend, in good spirits, and is incredibly thankful to the doctors, nurses, and staff providing him with excellent care."
