U.S. President Joe Biden called on Friday for an end to gun violence in the wake of yet another mass shooting after eight people were killed at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis.

"Gun violence is an epidemic in America. But we should not accept it. We must act," Biden said.

“Too many Americans are dying every single day from gun violence. It stains our character and pierces the very soul of our nation,” Biden asserted. “We can, and must, do more to act and to save lives.”

On her part, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris said: "Yet again we have families in our country that are grieving the loss of their family members because of gun violence."

"There is no question that this violence must end and we are thinking of the families that lost their loved ones," she told reporters as she greeted Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

A gunman killed eight people and injured several others at the FedEx facility in Indianapolis. FedEx spokesperson Bonny Harrison told the AP that the gunman was a former FedEx employee.

FedEx said in a statement that it was “deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of our team members following the tragic shooting at our FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis.”
