Attending such services is considered a traditional step taken ahead of the swearing ceremony.

The soon-to-be First Lady Jill Biden, the upcoming Second Gentleman of the nation Douglas Emhoff are taking part in the event.

A number of Congress leaders also are attending the ceremony alongside bipartisan congressional leaders such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Biden’s inauguration is scheduled for Wednesday at 12:00 pm EST (6:00 CLT).

The outgoing president will not meet Biden or even attend the swearing-in ceremony as usual in the handover of power. Instead, Trump intends to travel to Florida.

Later today, Biden will take the oath as the new US president. Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris is to be sworn in alongside him in Washington DC, which has been fortified amid fears of civil unrest.
