U.S. President Joe Biden welcomed the extension of the truce in Yemen, praising the role of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Jordan in facilitating its achievement.

Biden asserted that ending the war in Yemen was and will remain one of the most important priorities of his administration, noting that American diplomacy will not rest until a lasting peace settlement is established in Yemen, according to Alhurra.

Last April, Biden welcomed the United Nations’ announcement of a two-month truce in the Yemen conflict, stressing that the initiative was a long-awaited reprieve for the Yemeni people.

“The ceasefire must be adhered to, and as I have said before, it is imperative that we end this war. After seven years of conflict, negotiators must undertake the hard and necessary work to reach political compromises that can bring about an enduring future of peace for all the people of Yemen,” Biden affirmed in a statement issued by the White House.

Dana Stroul, the deputy assistant secretary of defense for the Middle East, has previously stressed that Egypt has a “constructive role” when it comes to security in Libya, the conflict in Gaza, and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

“We also believe and support that Egypt has legitimate security concerns and believe that security assistance to Egypt is a critical tool in supporting those needs,” Stroul emphasized.

“The current view of the administration is that Egypt is playing a constructive role when it comes to border security, Libya, GERD, obviously the conflict in Gaza, et cetera,” she added.
