We look ahead to know the best video games of 2019 that will keep you firmly planted all aboard that hype train of new releases.

*Apex Legends

The best part is that Apex Legends is a genuinely great game. Its fast-paced gameplay and brilliant team mechanics make it one of the most accessible, yet challenging battle royale titles on the market and one of the most entertaining multiplayer games of the modern era. This free-to-play title could have legs if Respawn updates it the right way.

*Blair Witch

There are reasons to be excited about 2019's Blair Witch. Not only does the initial footage look incredible, but considering that this is being developed by the same studio that made Layers of Fear, we think this might actually be the Blair Witch game that captures the atmosphere and terror of the original film.

*Code Vein

Code Vein is easily described as "anime Dark Souls." It's an over-the-top action-RPG that emphasizes an intricate combat system, character builds, and a sometimes punishing level of difficulty. It also adds a sometimes over-the-top style that is a far cry from Dark Souls' muted tones and grim atmosphere but just might be enough to help put this game over-the-top.

*Resident Evil

This isn’t just Resident Evil 2, but nearly a new game entirely. Expanded and altered scenarios, gorgeous graphics, tight controls, and throwbacks to classic moments in the series come together to make something wholly memorable, offering plenty of replay value even for die-hard fans of the series who had gone through the PlayStation original more times than they can count. Out of the crop of remakes on their way.

*Metro Exodus

Metro Exodus is the best Metro game yet. It takes the fear-inducing formula of the series and transplants it into expansive, sandbox levels without losing any of the oppressive tension that makes the Metro series memorable and distinctive. Frequently exhilarating and densely atmospheric, this journey across a Russian dystopia brims with detail.

*Outer Worlds

Outer Worlds found its own path in the space between Bethesda and BioWare, and it’s a great one. And considering that new RPGs from either of those influential developers are still years away, this game couldn’t have been timed any better.

It features a large portion of flexible quests and conflicts within its series of smaller ones. And the combat, character, and companion systems have enough new spins on existing ideas to make it feel like an homage with its own personality rather than a copy.
