Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Hazem El Beblawi said on Saturday that the fund hailed Egypt's economic reform program, describing it as one of the most successful.

"The reform decisions were difficult and the government had the courage to take these necessary measures for the benefit of the country," Beblawi pointed out, adding that the highest credit goes to the Egyptian people who struggled for the prosperity and progress of their country.

"Achieving the first surplus in the budget is an important step in the economic reform program," he stated, pointing out that this surplus is expected to grow in the coming years.

He stressed that the IMF is ready for future assistance to Egypt during the coming period.

During his visit to Washington last week, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with Director General of the IMF Christine Lagarde, affirming that Egypt is abiding with the reform program. On her Part, Lagarde assured the fund's willingness to continue cooperation with Egypt in the near future.
