The next week’s Champions League soccer clash between Barcelona and Napoli will take place behind closed doors due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.

Barcelona are set to host Napoli in the second leg of the Uefa Champions League last 16 as the first tie ended in a 1-1 draw.

The spread of the coronavirus affected all events, especially the crowded events, across the world.

Following a meeting between representatives of Spain's health ministry and Barca's officials, both sides have agreed on holding their Uefa Champions League encounter against the Italian club without spectators.

"It is a decision that the Club has taken for health reasons, not just for the country but for the entire continent which is what is important and the Club will apply this decision with the support of the Catalan people,"  the Health Secretary of the Catalan Regional Government, according to the Blaugrana's official website.

It is worth mentioning that the virus hit many countries across the world as a number of states suspended all sports events.

Italy’s government decided on Monday to suspend all sports events in Italy, including all matches in Serie A, until April 3.

In a press conference, the country’s prime minister Giuseppe Conte announced the suspension of all sports events in the European state, but the decision will not be implemented on the Italian clubs or national teams participating in international competitions.
