The English club Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of its former Welsh star Gareth Bale for a season on loan, along with left-back Sergio Reguilon on a five-year deal, from Spain's Real Madrid.

British media reported that Spurs will pay £20m for the 31-year-old forward Bale, while Reguilon is on a five-year contract, until 2025, for a fee which could rise to £32m.

Reguilon,23, who will wear the number 3 shirt, travelled to London on a private jet on Friday morning, alongside Bale who will wear the number 9 shirt.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Everton were previously interested in signing Reguilon.

"We are delighted to announce the return of Gareth Bale to the Club on a season-long loan from Real Madrid", Tottenham's official website stated.

Initially signed as a 17-year-old from Southampton in 2007, Bale had spent nearly six years at Spurs before moving to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2013.

He went on to make 203 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions, scoring 55 goals, including 26 in a memorable final campaign in 2012/13.

During that time, Bale was twice named PFA Player of the Year (2011, 2013) and completed the treble of PFA Player/PFA Young Player and Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year in 2013.

Moreover, he was named in the PFA Team of the Year three times in a row, 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13.

Signing Bale and Reguilon are the latest deals by Spurs following the signings of Ireland defender Matt Doherty, Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and former England goalkeeper Joe Hart.
