Bahrain Welcomes Egypt-Greece Maritime Deal

Bahrain welcomed on Friday the signing by the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Greece of the agreement to designate the exclusive economic zone between the two countries.

In an official statement by the Bahraini Foreign Ministry, Manama stressed that it is an important and successful step for the two parties to build bilateral and achieve joint benefit from the available resources in the exclusive economic zone for each of them.

"The maritime demarcation deal aims to enhance the prospects for joint economic cooperation and meet the aspirations of the countries' peoples for further progress and prosperity," the statement read.

It added that "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commends this agreement, which is in line with the rules of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea," asserting that Manama expresses its appreciation for the determined efforts made by Egypt and Greece to enhance joint economic cooperation to serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.
