BA Director Receives Greek Ambassador to Egypt

Dr. Moustafa El-Feki, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) received on Wednesday, the Greek Ambassador to Egypt Nikolaos Garilidis.

At the outset of the meeting, El-Feki highlighted the historic ties between Egypt and Greece, saying: "Egypt and Greece have shared a great common history, and the BA is the best proof."

Moreover, he explained that relations between both countries have always been good, referring to the historic visit paid by the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser to Athens.

In addition, BA director expressed his happiness to receive the Greek ambassador in coinciding with the Library's celebration of the completion of Greek Orthodox Patriarchate manuscripts’ restoration project.

On his part, the Greek ambassador expressed his keenness to boost cooperation with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

He also talked about the 50s of the last century, when a large number of the Greek community was present in Egypt and Alexandria, in particular.

Moreover, the Greek ambassador pointed out that he lived part of his childhood in Port Said when his father and grandfather were working in the Suez Canal before he moved to Cairo, and left Egypt at the age of ten.

At the end of the meeting, El-feki dedicated to him a book entitled “Precious Manuscripts".
