Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was seen in a new video on Saturday, the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, after rumors of his death.

The SITE Intelligence group, which tracks jihadist groups' activity on the Internet, reported that in a video released by al-Qaeda, Zawahiri spoke about a number of topics including the "Judaization of Jerusalem."

The site's director, Rita Katz noted that although the video was posted on Saturday, al-Zawahiri did not mention the Taliban's control of Afghanistan.

Katz added that Zawahiri referred to a raid on a Russian military base by the al-Qaeda-linked Hurras al-Din group in Syria, which claimed responsibility on January 1, 2021.

Zawahiri also spoke about the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, but Katz noted that this could have been said long ago after the signing of the Doha agreement, in which the US pledged to withdraw its forces from the country.

"He could still be dead, although if that were the case, it would be sometime in January 2021 or later," Katz wrote on Twitter.
