Austrian Foreign Minister (FM) Alexander Schallenberg extended his sincere condolences to the Egyptian people and the Coptic Church over the victims of the massive fire that ripped through Abu Sefein Church in Imbaba district in Giza governorate Sunday.
In a statement, the minister said on Monday, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic fire in the “Abu Sefein” church, which killed dozens of people, including children.”
The minister expressed Austria’s sincere condolences to the people of Egypt and those who lost their loved ones, wishing a speedy recovery to all the injured.
It is worth mentioning that, forty-one people died and 14 were injured as the result of the fire that broke out during the Divine Liturgy due to “an electrical malfunction,” according to the interior ministry.
“The electric fault led to the emission of heavy smoke that was the main cause of casualties,” the interior ministry explained.
