Austrian Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner survived a car crash near Melk in the federal state of Lower Austria, the ministry announced on Monday.

In a statement, the ministry stated that a car, speeding on one of the main axes, collided with the minister's car from behind.

Several cars were damaged due to the collision. Fortunately, the minister and her bodyguards, as well as the occupants of the other cars, were not injured in the accident.

Following the incident, the Austrian Defense Minister thanked all the security personnel and emergency services for their quick assistance and professional work to secure the accident site.

Last year, the minister tested positive for the new coronavirus; however, she continued her work from home.

Notably, Tanner has been serving as Minister of Defense in the government of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz since January 2020. She was born in the small town of Scheibbs in Lower Austria.
