Australian securities regulator reported on Monday that there was a cyber security breach at a server it used to transfer files including credit licence applications, according to Reuters report.

Meanwhile, while the investigation is ongoing, it appears that there is some risk that some limited information may have been viewed by the threat actor. At this time ASIC has not seen evidence that any Australian credit licence application forms or any attachments were opened or downloaded.”

The server has been disabled as a precaution and no other tech infrastructure has been breached, ASIC added. On other hand, “ASIC’s IT team and cyber security advisers engaged by ASIC are undertaking a detailed forensic investigation and working to bring systems back online safely.

Last week, the Australian Financial Review revealed major Australian law firm Allens, was a victim of an attack that used the Accellion file-sharing system. Earlier in January, the RBNZ announced it had been subject to an attack via the Accellion product.

Noteworthy, Accellion’s file transfer application system is a two decade old product but was updated last year when it learnt of a vulnerability in the system.

The Accellion attack comes following a major cyber-espoinage malicious software malware attack on software developed by US-based SolarWinds. The attack rocked governments and businesses around the world in December, many using the company’s Orion software, which helps organisations manage their IT, networks, system and infrastructure.
