Australian Open: Pegula Stuns Svitolina to Reach quarters

American Jessica Pegula pulled off a shock victory to knock out fifth seed Elina Svitolina and qualify for the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in Melbourne.

The American world No. 61 won 6-3 3-6 6-3 on Rod Laver Arena to reach the last eight of a Grand Slam for the first time.

The 26-year-old will clash against American Jennifer Brady, who defeated Croatia's Donna Vekic 6-1 7-5.

"I feel good, everything feels pretty solid, so I'm just going take that to the next match," said Pegula, according to BBC.  "I'm just happy that I'm competing well, hitting well, moving well."

Spectators are banned from attending the matches due to the state of Victoria implementing a five-day mandatory quarantine on Feb. 12.
