Australian billionaire Andrew Forrest has donated $10 million to support the people of Gaza, according to a report by Anadolu Agency.
The donation, made through Forrest’s non-profit organization, the Minderoo Foundation, will benefit the World Central Kitchen and the United Nations' World Food Programme, providing much-needed humanitarian assistance to the region.
In a statement released by Minderoo, the organization emphasized the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis, stating that “Minderoo will not stand by while children die of hunger.”
The funds aim to help alleviate the severe shortage of food and necessities in Gaza, where many are struggling to survive amidst the ongoing conflict.
In June 2023, Forrest proposed creating a "safe gateway system" along the Gaza-Israel border, which would facilitate the delivery of 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid daily.
This system, designed to operate through three checkpoints, would allow 130 trucks to cross into Gaza every day to bring essential supplies to the people in need.
This is not Forrest's first act of generosity toward Gaza. Previously, he pledged over $6 million in financial aid to support relief efforts in the war-torn region.
Since October 7, 2023, the situation in Gaza has escalated into what many are calling one of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent memory.
Supported by the United States, Israel’s military operations have resulted in more than 138,000 Palestinian casualties, including tens of thousands of children and women, with over 10,000 individuals reported missing.
The devastation has left much of Gaza in ruins, with widespread hunger and a growing death toll among children.
