AU Comm. Amani Abou-Zeid Named in Africa's 100 Most Reputable List

African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy H.E. Dr. Amani Abou-Zeid has been named in the 2020 list of 100 Most Reputable Africans, who have performed outstandingly in different sectors

The list is released annually by Reputation Poll International, a leading global reputation-management firm.

Very prominent personalities featured in the list including Egypt’s AU Commissioner Amani Abou-Zeid, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and Cameroon’s Dr. Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

The list featured 47 women and 53 men from perse areas, including leadership, entertainment, advocacy, education, and business, with integrity, visibility and impact were used as the main criteria in the selection.

Abou-Zeid is considered the only Egyptian and North African women to be selected in the prestigious list.

She took to Twitter on Monday to express her happiness, tweeting “Happy and honoured to be named one of the top 100 most reputable africans (women and men) in 2020 — a distinguished recognition after being selected one of the 50 most influential women Africa in 2012 & in 2019.”

Who is Commissioner Amani Abou-Zeid?

An Egyptian national, Abou-Zeid has a multi-disciplinary education such as Electrical Engineering, Cairo University, MBA, Université Senghor; MPA, Harvard University, and Ph.D. Social and Economic Development from The University of Manchester.

Abou-Zeid has been serving as the African Union Commissioner in charge of Infrastructure, Energy, ICT, and Tourism since 2017.

Before joining the AUC, She served in leadership positions in international organisations for more than 30 years, such as the African Development Bank (AfDB), UNDP, and USAID, with a focus on infrastructure and energy programmes.

In 2018, Abou-Zeid launched the Single African Air Transport Market, delivering on the first flagship project for African Integration under African Union Agenda 2063 as well as other continental initiatives and projects.

She has earned numerous international awards and recognitions such as decorated the Wissam Alaouite from Morocco, named “Personalité d'avenir" from France, selected one of "The 50 Most Influential Women in Africa"; and received the "Outstanding Alumni Award" from the University of Manchester, UK.
