Aswan International Women Film Festival Kicks Off

Cairo, Feb. 21 (SEE)- Aswan International Women Film Festival held its 3rd edition’s opening ceremony yesterday in the attendance of Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem.

In presence also were Festival Director Hassan Abu Alaala and Advisor to the Minister of Culture for Cinema Affairs and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Artistic Works Khalid Abdul Jalil.

The opening ceremony has also been witnessed by the artists Bassem Samra, Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Reem el-Baroudi, Ahmed Wafik, Madline Tabar, Jihane Khalil and Sherif Ramzy.

Furthermore, Yousra el-Lozy, Dorra, Lekaa Elkhamissi and Lebanese Actress Nour were present.

Other attendees were, Media Directors Dawood Abdel-Sadeed and Amr Abdel Hamid, Film Critic Tariq El Shennawi and Film Producer Mohamed el-Adl.

President of the festival Mohamed Abdel khaliq and Festival Director Hassan Abu Alaala praised the festivals new edition’s well organization.

They also thanked roles of Ministry of Culture, Tourism Promotion Authority, the Head of the National Council for Women Dr. Maya Morsy and the Festival’s Chief of Trustees Dr. Mervat Talawi in supporting the festival’s new round.

Abdel Dayem said the festival has achieved major success in the past 2 years as an effective platform that seeks real solutions to women challenges.

On her part, Dr. Mervat Tallawy said the festival is mainly aiming at changing old mindsets regarding women’s appearance and outfit and opens doors to restore our soft power in the whole world.

In the same context, Dr. Maya Morsy stated that this nascent festival came as a result of launching the year of Egyptian women by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Major Ahmed Ibrahim, governor of Aswan, pointed out that his wife is the main reason behind his success, stressing women’s role in building the whole society.

In the opening ceremony, festival’s management honored Egyptian actresses Menna Shalaby and Mohsena Tawfik besides The International Actress Barbara Bouchet, the guest of honor.
