The Egyptian Armed Forces killed on Tuesday 18 takfiris after thwarting a terrorist attack against a security checkpoint in Bir El Abd city, North Sinai.

Forces securing the checkpoint, in cooperation with air forces, chased the attackers to a farm and some uninhabited houses in an operation that left 18 takfiris killed, including one who was wearing an explosive belt, the military spokesman said in a statement issued Tuesday night.

"Four vehicles that belonged to the terrorist group were destroyed, out of which three were booby-trapped," the spokesman also said.

He added that two Armed Forces servicemen were martyred in the foiled attack, while four others were injured.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces affirmed the continuation of its efforts for securing all the strategic axes of Egypt in order to eliminate terrorism and ensure the security and safety of its people.
