Arab Parliament sends condolences to Egypt over casualties of Sohag train collision

Condolences poured in from across the Arab world for Egypt, after two trains collide in upper Egypt.

On Friday, Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, president of the Arab Parliament, and Arab Parliament members extended their condolences to Egypt's authorities and citizens over the casualties of a deadly train crash in Egypt's governorate of Sohag.

According to an official statement by the Arab Parliament president, Al-Asoumi stressed the Arab Parliament’s solidarity with Egypt, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

"Our sympathies and prayers are with Egyptian families of the victims of that collision disaster, and we wish a speedy recovery to the survivors,"Al-Asoumi said.

Meanwhile,  Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam expressed his condolences to the grieving and afflicted families and wished those injured in the horrific accident a fast recovery.

On the other hand, Jordan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Daifallah Fayez expressed his country's "deepest condolences ... following the horrific incident in Upper Egypt."

It's worth mentioning that nearly 32 people were killed and 66 injured Friday when two passenger trains collided in southern Egypt, the health ministry announced early Friday, the latest deadly two trains collision to hit the country, according to domestic reports.

Earlier, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi pledged tough punishment for those mainly responsible for the crash.

"We hope that the circumstances of this deadly accident will be determined as soon as possible," El-Sisi said.

In the same context, the health ministry Hala Zaied reviled that dozens of ambulances rushed to the scene in the Tahta district of Sohag province, approximately 460 kilometres (285 miles) south of the capital Cairo after the two trains collided.
