The Arab Coalition backing Yemen's government announced on Saturday that it has killed 160 Houthi militants in strikes south of the important city of Marib, where loyalists claim the rebels had advanced.

According to the official Saudi Press Agency, the coalition declared that in the last 24 hours, we carried out 32 strikes in Abdiya. It added that 11 military vehicles were destroyed and more than 160 terrorist members were exterminated."

More than 700 Iran-backed rebels have been killed in air strikes in the battle for Marib, according to the Arab Coalition.

Despite recent losses, the Houthis are already in the heart of the Abdiya district after a four-week siege, AFP reported according to a loyalist source.

According to the source, rebels have kidnapped, imprisoned, and abused Yemeni tribesmen who backed pro-government forces.

Moammar al-Eryani, Yemen's Information Minister, accused the rebels of targeting residential neighbourhoods.

The Houthis launched a significant operation to take Marib in February, and after a brief pause, they have resumed their assault in recent weeks.

According to the UN migration agency, tens of thousands of people have been displaced in the province this year, with nearly 10,000 of them in September alone.
