Antiquities Min. Inspects Renovation of Fasqia Building at Mohamed Ali Palace

Dr. Khaled El-Anani, the antiquities Minister, inspected El-Fasqia building at Mohamed Ali Palace in Shubra, to follow the restoration work, which started in March 2018.

This visit comes in cooperation with the Armed Forces Engineering Authority after preparing the necessary studies by the Archeology center, Cairo University with the Islamic and Coptic Antiquities Sector in the Ministry.

The Minister was accompanied by Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of Antiquities Supreme Council , brigadier general Hisham Samir, Assistant Minister for Engineering Affairs and Dr. Jamal Mustafa the Islamic Antiquities Sector Head .

Dr. Waziri said that the El- Fasqia building, which includes a water basin with a fountain, a dining room, a billiard hall, a hall for names and a throne room, was plagued by many engineering, structural and technical problems.

In addition to the persion and disintegration of the marble fountain, which is in the middle of the basin, also there is a tendency and unbalance of its body as a whole.

Also, there are problems in the drainage work and filters rooms pumps, fungus presence as well as damage on the decorative surfaces.

Samir explained that cleaning and maintenance of lighting units was completed by up to 65%, the completion of mechanical and chemical cleaning works for marble columns, decorative plaster ceilings for corridors and rooms, as well as the removal of the floor of lake from marble slabs and lighting lamps and mechanics by 50%.

Furthermore, the truss roof and the treatment of internal wood panels for the ceilings were renovated by 50%.

On other hand, Dr. Mustafa reported that Mohamed Ali Pasha Palace in Shubra El-Khaimah, located on an area of 50 acres, was built by Mohamed Ali Pasha, two hundred years ago.

The Palace witnessed an unprecedented renaissance in various fields. Its construction began in 1808-1223 AH and until 1836 AD.
