American actress Anne Heche remains in critical condition and is not expected to survive following a tragic car crash and driving into a residential home.
“Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she’s being kept on life support to determine if any are viable,” her representative said in a statement on Thursday.
On August 5, Heche was in a car that was traveling at a high speed when it ran off the road and collided with a residence that became engulfed in flames. A woman inside the home at the time of the crash suffered minor injuries but did seek medical attention.
The Emmy Award winner has remained in critical condition. This week, a spokesperson for Heche told CNN that she had suffered a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention.
“We want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne’s recovery and thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses that cared for Anne at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills hospital,” the spokesperson continued.
On August 11, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that drugs were found in Heche’s system. LAPD clarified, however, that they have ruled out any substances administered at the hospital. She is also under investigation for a felony DUI after the woman inside the destroyed home needed treatment for injuries.
