An archaeological mission supervised by the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University discovered the bow of an ancient ship in Sadana Island, Red Sea. Several parts of this bow were found in 1994.

Dr. Ehab Fahmy, the Head of the Central Administration of the Sunken Monuments, said that the mission discovered the central part of the ship, alongside several artifacts.

He added that parts of the ship were unveiled by a mission from the Center for Maritime Archaeology and Conservation in 1994.

In 2017, the work was resumed by Alexandria University’s Faculty of Arts to find the rest of the ship and document it to design a 3D model for it. Moreover, the mission aimed to preserve the antiquities of the ship.

Regarding the conducted studies about the ship, Fahmy explained that it is a trade ship which dated back to the mid 18th century.

It carried hundreds of artifacts made from porcelain and pottery, in addition to several kinds of crops.

Furthermore, the main reason for its sinking could be crashing into sharp and massive coral reefs on its way to Egypt from South Eastern Asia.
