The American Chambers of Commerce (AmCham) in Egypt, Greece and Cyprus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday  to reinforce the United States’ strategic focus on the Eastern Mediterranean, encourage trade, investment and inter-relations between the three countries.

The MoU was signed in the presence of the U.S. Ambassador in Cairo Jonathan Cohen , Head of International Affairs at AmCham Myron Brilliant, President of the Board of Governors of AmCham Egypt Sherif Kamel, as well as the US ambassadors in Greece and Cyprus.

The agreement complements and strengthens the regional vision in the fields of investment and economic cooperation in the eastern Mediterranean, as well as boosting intra-trade between those countries, leading to prosperity and shared security, according to AmCham.

"The MoU between the governments and the chambers of commerce focuses on the stability of the region and achieving the desired growth, as well as meeting the requirements of the peoples of those countries," AmCham added.

It is noteworthy that the agreement was held in conjunction with a summit between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to discuss ways to enhance joint tripartite cooperation in various fields.

The summit included intensive consultations and coordination on developments in the political situation in the region, which is witnessing unprecedented challenges threatening the security of the Mediterranean countries, within the framework of the historical and distinguished relations that unite them.
