Algeria’s interim President Abdelkader Bensalah has shortly arrived in Cairo International Airport in a visit to Egypt, during which he will attend the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final game against Senegal.

The Desert Warriors will play against Teranga Lions on Friday, July 19 at Cairo Stadium (21:00 CLT).

It will be the second clash between both teams as they met before in the group stage when Desert Warriors pulled off a 1-0 victory over Teranga lions.

Algeria reached the final game after dashing Nigeria hopes of winning the fourth Africa Cup of Nations title as they reached a first final since 1990 with a hard-fought semi-final Victory.

Riyad Mahrez’s 95-minute late goal gave them the victory after he fired a left-foot shot from a free kick.

Ekong’s 40-minute own goal gave Dessert Warriors the lead. Nigeria’s Striker Odion Ighalo equalized the scoring in the 72nd minute when the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology was used to award a penalty to the Super Eagles.

It is noteworthy that the Desert Warriors played against Teranga Lions on 10 occasions with five victories to Algeria versus three to Senegal. The other two confrontations ended in draws. Both teams scored 12 goals as no clash ended in a goalless draw.

They had four encounters in AFCON, with the last encounter in this tournament when the Desert Warriors pulled off a 1-0 victory.

The first game between both teams in AFCON was in 1990, hosted by Algeria where Desert Warriors defeated Senegal 2-1.

The second one was in AFCON 2015, held in Guinea where Algeria pulled off an unanswered two-goal victory. The third confrontation was in the 2017 tournament, hosted by Gabon, where they held a 2-2 draw.

The biggest result was in 2002 world cup qualifiers when Teranga Lions demolished Algeria with unanswered three goals.

Algeria’s only previous AFCON title was in 1990 on home soil, meanwhile Senegal strive to win their maiden title.
