Algeria's History Vs. Nigeria in AFCON

Lights will be shed on Sunday, July 14 at Cairo Stadium, where Algeria will play against Nigeria in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations. See presents the Desert Warriors history against Super Eagles in the AFCON.

Algeria played against Nigeria on 8 occasions in this showpiece tournament. The super Eagles won four games, while the Desert Warriors secured three victories. The other confrontations ended in a draw.

The first game between both teams was on March 22, 1980, when the Super Eagles achieved their first AFCON title in their history after crushing Algeria with unanswered three goals in the final.

The second match was on 10 March 1982 in Libya where Desert Warriors pulled off a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the group stage.

They met again for the third time in the group stage of the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by the Ivory Coast where they held a goalless draw.

The fourth confrontation was in AFCON 1988 held in Morocco, where Nigeria - the three-time title holders - defeated Algeria on Penalties (9-8) to reach the final.

The biggest result between both teams was on 2 March 1900 when Algeria, who achieved the title in this year, demolished Nigeria (5-1) in the group stage.

The Desert Warriors defeated Nigeria again in the 1900 AFCON with unanswered one goal to claim the first title in their history.

Twelve years later, the Super Eagles secured their third victory over Algeria with unanswered one goal in the group stage.

The last game between both teams was on January 30, 2010, when Nigeria snatched a narrow victory over Algeria in Angola (1-0).
