Emmy-winning actor Alec Baldwin gave his first remarks on-camera regarding the tragedy on the set of “Rust”.

The tragedy occurred on Oct. 21 while actors were rehearsing for the movie at the Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe when one round was accidentally discharged from a loaded prop gun that Baldwin had been told was a cold or unloaded weapon.

Assistant director Dave Halls had handed the actor the gun which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

Baldwin opened up on Saturday with the paparazzi about the fatal incident and his association with Hutchins. The video was distributed by TMZ.

“She was my friend. The day I arrived in Santa Fe and started shooting I took her to dinner with Joel, the director. We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together and then this horrible event happened," the actor shared.

Baldwin added he was unable to make comments about the ongoing investigation on orders by the sheriff’s department in Santa Fe.

Change.org petition in Hutchins’ name called for a ban on using real firearms on set and demands better working conditions for crew members has garnered over 81,000 signatures at the time of this writing.

“An ongoing effort to limit the use of firearms on film sets is something I’m extremely interested in. I’m not an expert in this field," Baldwin noted.

"So whatever other people decide is the best way to go, in terms of protecting people’s safety on film sets, I’m all in favor of and I will cooperate with that in any way that I can,” he continued.

The actor had also spoken about his doubts the movie will ever finish.
