Tourism Minister Dr. Rania Al-Mashat said the type of tourists visiting Egypt nowadays is different from those who were visiting in 2010.

Al-Mashat's remarks came during an interview with Manus Cranny of Bloomberg TV on the sidelines of Bloomberg's New Economy Forum, held in Beijing, China.

Al-Mashat was commenting on the number of tourists who visited Egypt this year that reached nearly the 2010 peak, explaining that the number was significant for more than one reason.

"The number of tourists isn't yet at the peak that we saw in 2010, which means the duration of time spent in the country is longer and the spend per night is higher," Al Mashat said.

The second reason is that by the end of this year in December, the number of tourists will reach the peak of 2010, according to the tourism minister.

The minister pointed out that all these developments indicate that Egypt is on the right track of the tourism sector's growth.

In light of the Tourism Ministry's study of travel trends, "Today’s travelers are looking for experience, they’re looking for persity of offer and they’re looking for being part of the local community,” she said, citing the potential of the Red Sea Mountain Trail and Siani Trail.

She further said the ministry deals with the privately-led sector with a preemptive attitude rather than a reactive one, adding it represents 15% of Egypt’s economy.
