Al-Azhar Al-Sharif strongly condemned, on Wednesday, storming Al-Ibrahimi Mosque by Israeli President Isaac Herzog, warning against violating Islamic sanctities.

In a statement, Al-Azhar affirmed that these aggressive practices are a blatant violation of Islamic sanctities, calling it a vain attempt to create a new reality in the occupied Arab Palestinian territories.

Al-Azhar also asserted that this move provokes the Palestinian people’s anger, increases their strength, and adherence to their rights, land, and religious sanctities.

Moreover, the top religious institution called on the international community and all world governments to take a firm stand and stop these violations and provocations, and respect the feelings of nearly two billion Muslims around the world.

On Sunday, Herzog stormed the Ibrahimi Mosque in the West Bank, city of Hebron (Al-Khalil), in a move that has been seen as an explicit and clear declaration of his sponsorship of the Jewish settlers’ plans, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Israeli forces closed the mosque gates and prevented Palestinian residents from praying or standing nearby, according to the news agency. They also forced the shop owners to close their shops, hindered the work of the press crews, and assaulted a number of them in an attempt to prevent them from covering the intrusion.
