Al-Anany, Hawass Honor Archaeologists on 13th Anniversary

CAIRO, Jan. 15 (SEE)- The Cairo Opera House hosted, on Monday Evening, the 13th Archeologists’ Day celebration in the presence of Antiquities Minister Dr. Khaled Al-Anany, Egypt’s Renowned Archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass and a number of ministerial personnel.

Al-Anany confirmed that the ministry highly recognized its employees noting that 2787 that 2,787 contractors have been met and is waiting for the Ministry of Finance’s response to complete their appointment procedures. There are 1485 contractors, and their work will soon be completed as well.

"In 2018, 21 senior positions have been appointed, including 20 General Managers. There is an increase in the bonuses in addition to granting monthly bonuses to distinguished personnel across the 27 governorates," said Al-Anany.

The minister honored the winners of the 2018 ‘Dr. Zahi Hawass Award’ namely; Rabie Eissa as the best archaeologist, and Eid Rizq Mertah as the best restorer.

On his part, Dr. Hawass recounted that prior to presiding over the antiquities authority, he used to say that his work will focus on restoring mummies only excluding monuments. He pointed out that he decided to offer an award in his name in line with the scholarship granted by the American University in Cairo (AUC) in his name since 2013.

"I spent my lifetime sincere to antiquities, and in return it offered me what was not given to anyone before," added Dr. Hawass. "Currently, I am negotiating with Dr. Al-Anany to make the award a lifelong one."

Dr. Hawass stressed that one of the conditions of the award is that it will not adhere to the age of the applicant and will be presented to two of the best archaeologists and restorers. The winning work should also be related to the ministry's annual projects and specific criterion of the applicant’s Curriculum Vitae (CV) will be announced soon.
