Ain Shams Univ. in Orange for 1st World Patient Safety Day

Zaafarana Palace, Faculty of Medicine Building and University Hospital Buildings of Ain Shams University are lighting up in orange in celebration of the first World Patient Safety Day, organized by the Faculty of Medicine and Ain Shams University Hospitals in collaboration with the World Health Organization - Regional Office for the Middle East and WHO Representative Office in Egypt.

The event, scheduled to kick off today, Tuesday, include a scientific day, an exhibition of patient safety guidelines in hospitals, a session on national standards for patient safety and other events aimed at spreading awareness of patient safety and safety in hospitals and medical students.

According to World Health Organization statistics, there are 134 million adverse events each year due to unsafe hospital care in low- and middle-income countries, contributing to 2.6 million deaths annually, while 4 out of 10 patients are harmed in primary and ambulatory settings, 80% of those patients are harmed due to the damage in these settings.

On the first World Patient Safety Day, which will be held annually on September 17, WHO will launch a global campaign to raise awareness of patient safety and urge people to demonstrate their commitment to making healthcare safer.

The organization chose orange as the color of this World Day, as it did in the #PatientSafety and #WorldPatientSafetyDay, via various social media sites.
