The Sudanese official news agency (SUNA) revealed that the level of water in the Nile River next to Khartoum State reached 17.10 meters exceeding the level of flood by 60 cm.
SUNA pointed out that the rising level of water enforces residents of Khartoum and its northern districts to take all necessary safeguards to save souls and properties.
The daily statement of the Flood Commission in Sudan indicated that the coming water in the Blue Nile at the Sudanese- Ethiopian borders reached 629 million cubic meters today, Thursday.
Meanwhile, the coming water in the Atbara River at the borderline with Ethiopia hit 292 million cubic meters.
SUNA added that the exiting water from the Roseires Dam rose by four million cubic meters to reach 631 million cubic meters today compared with 627 million cubic meters yesterday.
The statement of the Flood Commission urges all the Sudanese people to be vigilant against the possible danger of the fold.
However, media reports said that heavy rain hit various parts of Sudan last week.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) said on Sunday that thousands of houses were damaged due to floods that swept through Sudan as streets in the Sudanese cities were covered by higher layers of water, especially in Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan due to the weakness of draining systems in the country.
SUNA affirmed that hundreds of houses collapsed in Atbara City, 350 km north of the capital owing to floods.
On the other hand, the Flood Commission under the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources in Sudan, announced last Sunday that the level of water in the Nile River next to Khartoum rose by 6 cm.
However, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said on Friday, that 12 thousand people in eight Sudanese states were affected by heavy rain that had fallen in Sudan recently.
